We had a chance to ask writer Erica J Heflin about this issue, about Cheshire, and what famous actor “personifies” him…
Erica: Truth be told, he’s my favorite character to write. In a sense, it’s like writing a villain, where you have this set of motivations that are both foreign to you as a person, but compelling for that very reason. An actor that could carry the dark gravity required for Cheshire, while balancing that smirk-ridden wit? I’d love to go with an 80s era Lance Henriksen (an answer admittedly colored by a long-standing crush). I’d need an actor with a weighty voice, who can deliver lines with both the coy ambivalence and dark gravity required for Cheshire. And that subtle tinge of glee! He’s definitely a character where a bit of an inflection shift could change the whole meaning behind his words.
